In 2009, Niagara College established a Sustainability Committee to provide an open forum for the discussion of College-wide initiatives with a goal of improving and extending current environmental, social and economic practices in an open and transparent decision-making process. In this way, the Sustainability Committee is dedicated to integrating sustainable principles on all campuses, focusing on the five areas of priority including: energy, water, and paper consumption, waste generation and carbon emissions.

A brief description of the sustainability coordinator’s position:
The Sustainability Coordinator is held within the Facilities Management Services department at Niagara College. The position is responsible for working in conjunction with the sustainability committee to fully integrate sustainability into all areas of the college. This includes managing the environmental management system and all sustainability related projects across the campus including waste and carbon management, regulatory requirements and all sustainability student projects. Student and employee engagement and outreach is also an important aspect of this position.
