A brief description of steps taken to ensure that e-waste is recycled responsibly, workers’ basic safety is protected, and environmental standards are met:

Niagara College has a contract with a local electronic waste hauler that is approved by the Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES). The OES is a not-for-profit organization that oversees the responsible reuse and recycle of waste electronics through a program that includes 600 collection sites and multiple other affiliate sites across Ontario. Their approval verifies that the electronic waste is taken to a facility that will properly dismantle all electronic components to ensure environmental standards are met as well as workers basic safety.

A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for institution-generated materials:

All electronic waste generated by Niagara College is disposed of in a central location at each campus. All employees can request for obsolete electronic waste to be picked up by facilities or IT staff which can be placed in the central location for disposal.

A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for student-generated materials :

Niagara College hosts electronic disposal events in which all staff, students and community members can drop off any unwanted electronics at the campus. Electronics that are still functioning are donated for re-use and those that are not functioning are sent to be disposed of with our electronic waste hauler.
