New York University is dedicated to making it easier for students to find sustainability related classes with a ‘sustainability’ and ‘climate’ tag on Albert, the university’s student information and registration system. This accomplishment helps make sustainability education a priority for students throughout their careers at NYU.

NYU’s Rubin Hall completed its Passive House retrofit and welcomed students for the fall 2024 semester. The nearly 100-year-old building has been outfitted with new windows, insulation, and air conditioning and is expected to reduce fossil fuel usage by 100%. The success of this renovation stands to have a massive impact on the city and beyond, serving as a blueprint for retrofitting thousands of pre-war buildings.

New York University joined the NYC Plant-Powered Carbon Challenge, a new City Hall initiative to decrease food-related carbon emissions. By joining, NYU has pledged to reduce its food-related greenhouse gas emissions 25% by 2030. This initiative is one of the latest in an effort to achieve climate neutrality by 2040 while providing the NYU community with delicious, healthy, and sustainable food.
