Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
NYU offers three on-campus food pantries to support students in need.
-
The Violet Pantry is a student-run food pantry open to all members of the Liberal Studies and Global Liberal Studies community, offering non-perishable foods, fresh produce, personal hygiene products, and books. Open four days a week, for eight hours total (hours vary by semester)
-
The SPS Purple Pantry supports students experiencing food insecurity by providing staple foods to all SPS students. SPS students email to schedule a visit.
-
USG Pantry provides essential groceries and hygiene supplies. Open twice a week.
In addition to the on-campus food pantries, NYU Courtesy Meals is a short-term, emergency resource for students facing an unexpected financial disruption/situation and cannot afford meals or groceries. Courtesy Meals:
-
grant a $75 dining dollars credit to a student's NYU ID
-
are offered free of charge
-
do not affect a student's financial aid
-
may be requested up to three times per academic year
-
are accepted only at our NYC campus
The NYU Student Government Assembly also offers a peer-to-peer initiative, Swipe It Forward, that supports students facing food insecurity with donated meal swipes. The availability of this program depends on current donations. Any student can donate meal swipes at participating dining locations.
