A brief description of the certificate program(s):

As climate change becomes a growing reality, the importance of sustainable growth and development has become a critical factor in the financial decision-making process for public and private sector entities and investors alike. The rapid increase in the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria in financial decisions has resulted from the actions of global agencies and local governments to slow the detrimental impact of climate change and promote social responsibility, as well as investor demand for sustainable growth. The emergence of sustainability criteria in the area of public and private finance and investment has driven an influx of talent from different areas of expertise into this emerging area of finance.

The Certificate in Sustainable Finance is designed to provide you with the unique skills and invaluable insights to launch your career in this exciting growth area in the financial industry. For example, you will become familiar with key concepts related to sustainability and then learn how to integrate them into the financial decision-making process for public and private issuers and investors. You will establish core knowledge of the key environmental, social, and governance factors associated with assessing financial decisions and investments. During the certificate program, you also will learn how to apply financial tools to incorporate and adopt ESG-related factors in selecting and managing a portfolio. Certificate courses are taught by practitioners with sustainability finance experience who will introduce relevant examples and case studies designed to apply your newly developed skills to address real-world problems.

This rigorous certificate program has been created primarily to establish core knowledge in the area of sustainable finance. Early- to mid-career professionals will find this credential invaluable as they seek a role in this new and emerging area of the financial industry. The Certificate consists of two required foundational courses and two electives and is expected to take up to two semesters to complete.
