Percentage of all entering students that are provided an opportunity to participate in orientation activities and programming that prominently include sustainability:
A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
NYU hosts NYU Welcome, a long-standing tradition designed to introduce new first-year and transfer students to NYU. Each year, as part of NYU Welcome, the Office of Sustainability hosts events, tables at Welcome Weekend, and a variety of school-led resource fairs, and gives sustainability overviews at school orientations. In 2024, the Office of Sustainability hosted several events, including green campus tours and plant meditation workshops, a climate action mixer; tabled at over 5 school-led resource fairs; and gave 2 sustainability overviews. The Presidential Welcome Reality Show, an annual welcome from the University President with a sketch comedy musical performance, includes a skit about sustainability. Through these activities, NYU students learn about NYU’s climate goals and how they can get involved in sustainability on campus. It also provides them the opportunity to meet staff from the Office of Sustainability and like-minded students interested in environmental issues and combating climate change.
