Do the figures reported above cover one, two, or three academic years?:
One

A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :

NYU tracks courses taught per semester in an internal database with a variety of different filters. One of these filters is whether a course is considered to be sustainability-related. Sustainability-related courses were initially identified using a sustainability-related keyword search on Course Title and Course Description. These keywords included: sustain, environ, climate, energy, green, ecolog, urban, food, animal, nature, human rights, reproductive health, infrastructure, planet, and earth. New classes are tagged on an annual basis using the same keyword search and based on faculty direction. Sustainability-focused courses are those that are either directed by faculty or have “sustain,” “environ,” “climate,” “energy,” “green,” “ecolog,” “nature,” “planet,” and “earth” in the Course Title while the rest of the courses are tagged as sustainability-inclusive.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
