Diversity and Equity Recognition
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
NYU has been formally recognized by U.S. News for leadership in diversity with a Diversity Index of 0.72. NYU has made a strong commitment to building and strengthening of a university-wide culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity. Thanks to initiatives like the Center for Multicultural Education and Programs and the LGBTQ+ Center, NYU has been able to engage and support students from all backgrounds with the goal of fostering a more inclusive community.
To develop this index U.S. News factors in the total proportion of minority students, leaving out international students, and the overall mix of groups. The data are drawn from each institution's fall 2018 total undergraduate student body. The ethnic categories used in the calculations are non-Hispanic African-American, Hispanic, American Indian, Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian, Asian, non-Hispanic white and multiracial (two or more races).
