A brief description of how the institution ensures that its lowest-paid workers (including contractors, if applicable) receive sustainable compensation:
More information regarding NYUs policies are available at the below website but a summary of job grades is below.
Job Grades and Salary Ranges:
Jobs within all object codes, except code 107/117, are further classified into grades. The grade assigned to a job depends on its level of complexity and responsibility relative to other jobs at the University. Each grade has a corresponding salary range. There are 10 job grades for administrative & professional positions (codes 100/110). There are six job grades for office/clerical positions (codes 106/116) with three separate grades for legal secretarial positions. There are six grades for laboratory/technical positions (codes 104/114). The salary minimums for these grades are determined during contract negotiations with the United Staff Association, Local 3882. See Article 8–Wages of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
NYU no longer provides salary ranges that apply to all positions in a specific grade level because hiring salaries are based on a number of factors, such as a candidate's background and experience as well as the budget allocated for a position. Candidates should provide their salary requirements in their cover letter.
Service positions (codes 107/117) do not have grades or salary ranges. Instead, hiring rates for most service jobs are established in the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the following union local:
Local 1 Security Officers’ Union
Local 32B-32J (Apartment House Agreement and Loft Agreements–covers maintenance positions such as handy person, porter)
Window Cleaners’ Union Local 2 (S.E.I.U. – AFL-CIO)
Local 810, I.B.T (covers skilled maintenance positions such as HVAC mechanic, building operator, refrigeration engineer)
Hotel Association of New York City (covers maintenance positions such as housekeeper)
