NYU has contract provisions calling for construction and demolition (C&D) wastes to be recycled, to the maximum extent possible, by authorized contractors working on building construction and renovation projects for the university.

Though it is standard practice at NYU (and general practice in New York City) to recycle substantial portions of the Construction and Demolition waste stream, at NYU this data was not previously aggregated or available. In 2009, a system was put in place to collect all construction and demolition waste data.
