OP-11: Cleaning Products Purchasing

NYU specifies in the Environmental Purchasing Policy and Guidelines the procurement of EcoLogo or Green Seal-certified cleaning products wherever these are available, cost-effective and capable of completing the job. NYU has also included specification language for use of green cleaning products in the contract with the third-party janitorial vendor responsible for cleaning all of our buildings. Information obtained from management staff affiliated with private janitorial contractor that is responsible for all cleaning at NYU. Information provided included price per unit, total expenditures in $ and product names. This information was supplemented through an interview with staff familiar with individual projects and purchasing decision rationales. For those categories of cleaning products that have no Green Seal or EcoLogo certified brands, the products and their total cost have been factored out of NYU's total baseline figure, in keeping with the stipulation written in the credit info. These products include disinfectants (B/RTD #33 Morning Mist and RTD #19 Triple Team 3145387), ice melts (Green Scapes Ice Melt 50lb Bag) and oven cleaners (Easy-off Fume Free Max Oven and Grill and oven Clner Aerosol 12/C. Among the products in use at NYU that are neither Green Seal or Ecologo certified, those that were noted by the building service officials to contain environmentally-preferable attributes were noted accordingly.
