1. DAPPA - Desert APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators) was formed so higher education institutions in the desert area could share information on the challenges of maintaining an institution in a desert environment. Members include New Mexico State University, University of Texas El Paso, El Paso Community College, Doña Ana Community College, and New Mexico Technical College.

1. AASHE Conference in Minneapolis 2015 - the Sustainability Manager and Utilities Director gave a 1-hour presentation on their successful implementation of an Energy Services Agreement with Ameresco (also co-presenters for this talk)
2. AASHE Conference in Baltimore 2016 - the Sustainability Manager along with faculty from two other colleges gave a 1-hour presentation on lowering waste on campus by using PeopleTowels reusable organic cotton hand towels.

The NMSU Sustainability Manager and NMSU Stormwater Management Director are on the committee “Discussing the Future of Water in El Paso del Norte Region” organized by the Hunt Institute for Global Competitiveness and the Center for Environmental Resource Management (CERM) at UTEP in October 2015. We share our experiences in our particular locale with water challenges we are experiencing. This stakeholders board is an opportunity for urban and industrial stakeholders to share their perspectives and experiences on the relationship between water and economic growth.

NMSU and University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) partner on sustainability programs. NMSU Sustainability Manager was a panelist at UTEP's first Sustainability Fair in October 2016. Dr. newcomer also tabled during the day to talk to UTEP students, faculty, and staff about sustainability at NMSU.

A brief description of the peer review activities:
In 2013 the sustainability manager met with a president-appointed committee at University of Texas El Paso (UTEP). The committee of faculty and staff from many different departments across campus was given the task of deciding whether to do the STARS report or not. After joni newcomer, NMSU sustainability manager, gave pros and cons of the report (mostly pros!) UTEP decided to do the report and hired a contractor to do the reporting. The Dr. newcomer remained as a consultant, assisting the school on their STARS report. The NMSU Sustainability Manager met on many different occasions in 2015 and 2016 in person and consulted often by phone with the UTEP STARS reporter, Luis Perez, in charge of doing the first STARS report. In March 2016 UTEP submitted and got a Bronze Star!
