A brief description of the institution's Tree Campus USA program:
We have inventoried 4000 trees on our campus (which is a pretty good count for a high desert location!). We used the program from "iTrees" for our inventory. Facilities and Services worked together with the Geography department and the students created the inventory as a special class project. We are the center of pecan country and the pecan growers have donated many pecan trees that now line our streets. http://www.itreetools.org/ is the website for iTree We meet several of the credits of the Arbor Day Foundation as well as plant trees on campus with volunteers from local school districts as well as NMSU volunteers. http://pow.nmsu.edu/view_plan.php?plan_id=563 See Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences article in link to above newsletter titled: "NMSU Shows Roots to the Past Can Help Students Appreciate the Environment"
