Role of the Sustainability Subcommittee:

1. Contribute to the development of an implementation plan toward meeting NJIT’s carbon neutrality commitment.
2. Recommend and advise on matters pertaining to sustainability practices and the formulation of university policies.
3. Advise on the integration of sustainability with existing campus programs in education, research, operations, and community outreach.
4. Assist in engaging the campus in an ongoing dialogue about sustainability, and instilling a culture of sustainable long-range planning and forward-thinking design through their respective constituencies.

The mission of sustainability initiatives at NJIT is to help guide our community become more sustainable and drive pathway towards carbon neutrality. These initiatives are developed in order to create a culture of faculty, staff and students who are socially, economically and environmentally responsible.

The vision of the Office of Sustainability is to integrate sustainability into the core mission of the university through teaching, research, service. We are committed to projects that make efficient use of our resources in order to create a more sustainable campus and community.

The Sustainability subcommittee at NJIT is a recently formed institution-wide coordinating body. Some of the accomplishments are:
1. Signing of the Carbon Commitment with Second Nature
2. Completing GHG inventory
3. Putting together a faculty, staff and student sustainability culture and commuting behavior study.
