A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
NTHU offers several wellness enhancement services to faculty, staff, and students. In Taiwan, everyone is covered by National Health Insurance, and people are affordable for medical services in primary care or treatments. Moreover, for all affiliated employees and students, NTHU contracts with a regional hospital to offer daily clinic service on campus for primary care services, and if needed, it can refer the patients to nearby hospitals. The university also has the counselling center with licensed counselors to offer counselling services to those who need it. Specifically, for students, the university offers a university public health plan and a college health promotion plan to support health promotion activities. Each college has dedicated professional nurse practitioners to provide students individualized health counseling and injury care services. If students need service of medical care, we will give them medical advice and refer them to nearby hospitals. We will follow up on the students' health conditions.
For academic and non-academic staff, the university implemented the assistance plan for employees, aculty, staff, retirees, and pensioners by following the programs of "University Staff Assistance Program for Executive Yuan and Local Authorities" approved by the Executive Yuan on April 2, 2013, and the "Ministry of Education and Subordinate Institutions (Institutions) School Staff Assistance Program Implementation Plan" approved by the Ministry of Education on April 21, 2015.
In order to maintain the health of employees, NTHU has formulated a labor health service plan. Besides, a newly employed worker needs to present a physical examination report within the time limit, the university provides health checks (including general and special operation health check according to their age and occupation), health education, health promotion and hygiene guidance. If necessary, work site visits will be conducted with specialists in occupational medicine and personnel from the Environmental Safety Center. If there are relevant hazards, suggestions for improvement measures will be proposed.
