A brief description of the student sustainability research program:

Since 2001, the Graduate Institute of Environmental Education has provided the "Professor Yang Guanzheng Scholarship" to encourage students to conduct research on sustainability and environmental education. Each year, a doctoral and a master student receive an award of NT$10,000. Examples of supported student research under these fellowships include research on environmental education, environmental action, environmental behavior, and outdoor education.

A brief description of the faculty sustainability research program:

The institution encourages faculty to conduct the "Integrated Sustainable Development Research Project" by The Ministry of Science and Technology, and provides subsidies for trans-disciplinary research. It emphasizes on the combination of nature, humanities and social sciences fields, and on the joint participation of stakeholders; to find a solution for sustainable development and to achieve the vision from knowledge to action.

More than 85% of the faculty belong to permanent employment security contracts, and their promotion assessment includes research, teaching and service.
The institution follows the policies of the Ministry of Education to promote the development of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary education. It starts department integration, curriculum development, and research. The essential announcement for faculty encourages interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary teamwork, research, and the research results are used for promotion evaluation.
