Part 1. Student commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about student commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
89.40

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
Muhlenberg College does have students commute to and from campus by a means other than single occupancy vehicle for the majority of their daily commute trips. 89% of students walk, bicycle, or use other non-motorized means as their primary method of transportation. This is an estimate based on data collected from the Registrar's office of the number of on-campus students versus commuter students. As of 2023 all "Muhlenberg students are required to live on campus, and this guarantee makes for a thriving residential community and variety of living options, from traditional residence halls for first-year students and suite-style housing, apartments and houses for sophomore, junior and senior students."

Part 2. Employee commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about employee commuting behavior?:
No

Total percentage of employees that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
---

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:
There is no formal survey of employee transportation method so the percent of employees that use sustainable transportation is only an estimate. Considering the fact that many employees are employed by Sodexo, the dining services, it is unlikely that those who work in food services would be able to afford a house near Muhlenberg’s campus as the surrounding neighborhood is quite expensive. It is estimated that 90% of the Sodexo employees are commuters. On the other hand, a significant portion of professors live quite close-by and are able to walk or bike to campus.
