Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
Yes
A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
At Muhlenberg College, we have a resource pantry that we call Muhlenberg Useful Living Essentials (M.U.L.E.) Community Cabinet. The Cabinet is stocked with canned, dry, frozen, and shelf-stable food products to supplement student diets (especially students without a meal plan, though any student can access the Cabinet) as well as useful living essentials like basic cleaning supplies, standard hygiene items (including KN-95 face masks), and COVID-19 testing kits. Our Cabinet is housed in a basement wing of our student union, the most trafficked building on campus. This provides ease of access while also offering a certain sense of anonymity. Anyone with a Muhlenberg ID card is able to access the Cabinet during open hours, and if a student is in immediate need of the Cabinet they can request access by appointment using mulecabinet@muhlenberg.edu. The Cabinet is operated by a student director and work-study students and is supported by the Director of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and the Director of Student Support Services. Currently, the Cabinet is stocked by way of fundraising, alumni support, and donation drives.
