All students are required to take two courses that fall under the Human Difference and Global Engagement(DE) requirement, a sustainability-supportive learning outcome.
“Students must take two designated courses in the areas of Human Difference and Global Engagement. HDGE courses across the curriculum aim to broaden and deepen students’ understanding of human difference and to develop the intellectual and civic skills students require for participation in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.” (https://www.muhlenberg.edu/main/aboutus/registrar/courses/gar2/)

Total Degrees were obtained from the 2022-2023 IPEDs submittal Data. Due to the high number of students with double majors the total number of graduates does not corelate to the total number of degrees granted. Majors were considered to require an understanding of the concept of sustainability if they required a course that covered 3 or more of the UN SDGs or adopted sustainability-focused learning outcomes that required and understanding of social and environmental sustainability.

Sustainability Studies sustainability learning outcomes include:
Sustainability Studies students will explore how sustainability issues impact and are addressed at local, national, and global levels. Students will apply an interdisciplinary background to understand many of the complex challenges facing our world, and will develop solutions to these problems. Students will build a community with a diversity of perspectives and areas of expertise committed to seeking creative solutions for sustainability.
Environmental Science, Biology, Public Health, Natural Science, International Studies, Sociology, and Education Certification also have sustainability-related outcomes which will be explored in a later STARS submission. These are provided for informational purposes at the present time.
