A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

The Iniskim Centre at Mount Royal University opened March 21, 2007. The Iniskim Centre offers programs and services to increase the engagement and success of Indigenous students while raising awareness of Indigenous peoples and cultures. Mount Royal University is located on the traditional lands of the Blackfoot people, the Niitsitapi. The centre recognizes and respects the diversity of all Indigenous peoples of Canada.

The Iniskim Centre is a valuable resource for Indigenous students and prospective student of Mount Royal University. They host a variety of programs including the Aboriginal Education Program, Aboriginal Science and Technology Education Program, Indigenous Youth Science Talks, MEG Summer Science Camp, Medicine Trail Program, Indigenous Housing Program, and the BMO Peer Mentorship Program.

Specifically, the Indigenous Housing Program - the only program of its kind in Canada - was created for members of Canada's Indigenous population. This program helps these students succeed at their studies by providing a support network and access to housing, cultural connections and campus amenities.
