The Miistakis Institute focuses on ecological health and monitoring of wetlands, parks and other protected areas. The Institute educates and promotes citizen science as well as hires undergraduate students and researchers each year to help with their research and education programs.

Starting in 2015, Canoes for Peru started as an ecotoursim class project to bring a sustainable business model to Peru. The project is meant to facilitate economic growth opportunities and raise awareness about preserving The South American Biosphere Reserve untouched land and wildlife. The Treaty 7 Field school was developed between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous stakeholders to connect students to the land of Treaty 7 and understand our complex roots of truth and reconciliation. The curriculum was developed with Indigenous community members, elders and partners from the forefront. It explores environmental reconciliation through an Indigenous land-based experience.
