The following was obtained from the General Conditions of the Contract for Construction. The overall goal of the HPBS (High Performance Building Standards) is to make sure state-owned or leased buildings will increase the environmentally and socially sustainable building materials, finishes and furnishings from Montana, protect and conserve the natural resources and local renewable energy sources and reduce and properly manage waste generation. Part of MSU's waste management policy (Section 017320), states that the owner requires that projects generate the least amount of trash and waste possible. Minimize trash/waste disposal in landfills; reuse, salvage, or recycle as much waste as economically feasible. According to the same requirements, the following items may not be disposed of in landfills or by incineration and shall be recycled: Aluminum and plastic beverage containers, cardboard, wood pallets, clean dimensional wood, metals etc. If a state project has a budget greater than $5,000,000 it shall achieve a LEED Certification of a minimum Silver level or a Green Globes Rating of a minimum of Two Globes rating. Hyalite Hall, used as our Construction and demolition weights, received a LEED certification of Gold.
