Streamline is Bozeman’s fare-free bus service and a program of the Human Resources Development Council (HRDC). Streamline originated as the Bobcat Bus, an MSU student-run bus system, the first in Bozeman. As ridership grew, the Bobcat Bus and assets became Streamline, a rural transportation program managed by the HRDC. MSU has two dedicated board seats on the Streamline Advisory Board, now called the Gallatin Valley Urban Transportation District. AMSU Students and administration provide local match funds, promotion, and research support via MSU's Western Transportation Center and numerous class projects to identify areas of need for our community and support them.
To encourage public transportation and safe winter travel, MSU directly funds a route to Livingston, MT. Due to rising housing costs more students and employees are seeking housing farther away from Bozeman. In addition to incentivizing carpooling, MSU funds a dedicated route to and from Livingston in the winter to help our community avoid driving over a dangerous mountain pass.
MSU is a mountain community and many of our students enjoy skiing and snowboarding at our local mountain Bridger Bowl. MSU provides dedicated stops and routes to Bridger Bowl, supported by student fees. Bridger Bowl has grown so popular that they also contract directly with Streamline to provide additional service to and from MSU, downtown Bozeman and Bridger Bowl.
The MSU Office of Sustainability works closely with Bridger Bowl to encourage students and provide additional resources to increase ridership, and manage that ridership. The Office of Sustainability uses outdoor recreation as a conduit to climate change education, individual and collective action to mitigate climate change.
