Yes
A brief description of the assessment process and the framework, scorecard(s) and/or tool(s) used:
Montana State University's Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council conducted a campus climate survey in Spring 2018 to assess the climate for diversity for students, faculty, and staff. The Council selected the Diverse Learning Environments tool by the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) at UCLA for our campus climate survey. The survey was sent electronically to a random sample of MSU students and staff on March 28th. The faculty survey was sent electronically on April 4th. All surveys closed on April 25th, 2018 with a 20.9% response rate (n=1,043). Response rates by group were: staff 41.0% (n=199), faculty 34.5% (n=167), students 17.5% (n=677). MSU has begun to receive raw data from HERI and expects to receive a full report by October 20. At that point, the Council will begin disseminating results and findings to constituents.
The MSU Diversity Awareness Office conducted a campus climate survey via Survey Monkey between September 16 and October 26, 2014. The Office of Planning & Analysis (OPA) provided a sample frame and 3,998 unique invitations to participate were e-mailed. Twenty-three of the e-mail invitations were undeliverable. There were 827 responses for a 20.8% response rate. Following the implementation of the survey, several focus groups were held to gather qualitative data from students who identified with certain underrepresented populations.
Does the assessment process address campus climate by engaging stakeholders to assess the attitudes, perceptions and behaviors of faculty, staff, administrators and students, including the experiences of underrepresented groups?:
Yes
Does the assessment process address student outcomes related to diversity, equity and success (e.g. graduation/success and retention rates for underrepresented groups)?:
No
Does the assessment process address employee outcomes related to diversity and equity (e.g. pay and retention rates for underrepresented groups)?:
No
A brief description of the most recent assessment findings and how the results are used in shaping policy, programs and initiatives:
Findings and analysis will not be returned until later this semester. The Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council is discussing how to ensure that policies and initiatives reflect and address the findings of the campus climate survey.
Are the results of the most recent structured diversity and equity assessment shared with the campus community?:
Yes
A brief description of how the assessment results are shared with the campus community:
Results from the 2014 survey were shared through open forums, small group presentations, and trainings to illustrate the experiences of students and where there is room for improvement. The official climate study report was also posted on the Diversity Awareness Office website for about 2 years. They are no longer posted because they are outdated and we are in the beginning phase of conducting a follow-up campus climate study.
Are the results (or a summary of the results) of the most recent structured diversity and equity assessment publicly posted?:
