Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
School of Architecture Tiny Homes Project
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Students in the School of Architecture "Design for the Community" class worked to develop tiny homes that serve as prototypes for 37 tiny houses that will become part of a village for Bozeman's homeless. The project was completed over three semesters in partnership with the local faith community and the Human Resource Development Council. The design also incorporated materials being reused from residence halls on campus in an effort to build sustainable homes that reduced campus waste. All four prototypes were built according to the International Residential Code and sit on the same MSU lot but are designed to be easily moved to HRDC’s future Housing First Village
This project is a unique partnership between MSU and the Bozeman community aimed at addressing the shortage of affordable housing and shelter for the growing homeless population.
