Mohawk makes an effort not to produce any additional hazardous waste other than that which is required for the operations of the school.
A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:
Mohawk College utilizes a vendor (Phototech) that specializes in hazardous waste removal and disposal. Departments utilizing these materials are aware of contacting the OHS office for pick up and removal of hazardous waste.
Hazardous waste is regulated by the Ontario Ministry of Energy and Environment’s Regulation 347 “General – Waste Management”. This regulation requires all sites that generate hazardous waste to be registered with the Ministry of Energy and Environment (MOEE) and each waste stream generated must also be registered. This is to ensure
hazardous waste is disposed in an environmentally responsible manner. Mohawk College campuses and waste streams are registered with the MOEE and the Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN) and reviewed annually.
Each department that generates hazardous waste is responsible for the safe and proper disposal of that waste. The Occupational Health & Safety Department coordinates regular hazardous waste disposals and can be contacted for additional advice.

Mohawk has not had any significant hazardous material release incidents during the previous three years.

Since only a few chemical labs are present on campus in a centralized location all chemicals are easily inventoried and reused within these laboratories.

At Mohawk College we recycle all eletronic waste from our operations (IT department, offices across the college) and accept student and employee's personal e-waste. All e-waste is stored in a closed door cabinet that is fire proof and collected as needed by Quantum Lifecycle Partners LP. Quantum is accredited to the R2:2013 at the Destruction Centre. All material from our Collection Facilities flow to either our Head Office or Destruction Centres.
