A brief description of the institution’s community garden:
Mohawk is home to a 50 plot on-campus community garden where individuals, college departments and student groups are provided free garden space to grow fruits and vegetables for personal consumption. Tools, soil and a rainwater harvesting system are provided for use of all participants.
The garden is open to both college and community uses. Community users include: individual local residents from the adjacent neighbourhoods, St. Joseph's Healthcare recreational therapy programs, and children from the community who participate in a summer camp held on the campus. In total, about 70 local community members participate in the program annually.
Whilst the garden primarily provides growing space for personal consumption, participants are encouraged to donate their extra produce to local food banks and other non-profit partners.
