Mohawk Sustainability works with WWF and the Living Planet @ Campus program to create opportunities for our students to live, learn and lead in sustainability. With the support of WWF, Mohawk has successfully installed a rooftop pollinator garden, trained dozens of students in sustainability leadership programs, and engaged students in neighborhood clean ups. Each year, Mohawk Sustainability and the WWF welcome thousands of students at Day One Orientation at Mohawk, with the purpose of inspiring our students to get engaged and learn about sustainability while on campus. Mohawk College also worked with WWF to launch their new Living Planet @ Campus platform and program. In addition, in Fall 2021, Mohawk College recieved a grant from WWF to develop a native seed orchard. Native plants were planted, harvested and with the seeds being shared with the community.

A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability (3rd partnership):

The Community Garden donates fresh produce throughout the growing season to Neighbour 2 Neighbour foodbank. This multi-year partnership took a different angle throughout COVID lockdowns. The Community Garden was temporaily closed to the campus community. Mohawk Sustainability pivoted to transform the space into a victory garden. In 2021, over 660 lbs of fresh produce was donated to N2N.


A brief description of the institution’s other community partnerships to advance sustainability:

Community Garden - The Mohawk College Sustainability Office launched an ongoing annual on-campus, cooperative-based community garden, whereby individuals, departments, student groups and community members are provided garden space at the Fennell campus to grow common fruits and vegetables for personal consumption. Tools, soil, and a watering system are provided for use of all participants by Mohawk College. This project encourages local food production while providing teaching and learning opportunities for Mohawk students, staff and community members. Potential members simply email the Sustainability Office to register for an allotted plot.
