A brief description of how and when the cultural assessment(s) were developed and/or adopted:

"From October 28th - November 12th 2021, Mohawk Sustainability administered a Sustainability Survey to the entire campus community (students, staff, faculty). This survey was administered online via Qualtrix with the help of a communications campaign. The survey was vetted through the internal Institutional Research Office and passed ethics review. This survey incorporated questions focused on assessing knowledge, habits and viewpoints surrounding sustainability and climate change. Questions were designed with credits AC 6, EN 6, and OP 16 in mind.

This survey received 1188 unique responses with a breakdown of 812 students, and 350 employees, and 26 "other".

This survey is being considered a pre-post assessment. In November 2018 Mohawk College administered a similar Sustainability Survey. The most recent survey (Oct-Nov, 2020) would have captured responses from Year 3 students who started in 2018. In addition, Mohawk Sustainability plans to administer this new survey each Fall semester moving forward. Therefore, this survey can be considered a pre-assessment for the class of 2023/24.

Note: During this time online engagement at the College saw lower than average responses. Through consultation with Institutional Research, this survey was deemed to be representative and successful. "

A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:

This survey was administed digitally and recieved 1188 unique responses - of which 812 were from students, 350 from employees and 26 self-described "other". A representative sample was reached as the distribution of responses generally match the enrollment and employment demographics of the College (see attached results). Student responses were highest in the academic divisions with the most enrollment, matching demographic trends. Similairly, employee responses match demographics.

Please note: During the COVID-19 pandemic, digital engagement proved difficult. Achieving 1188 responses during a timeperiod where particpantion saw a marked decrease was deemed a success and a representative sample.

A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment:

"Please refer to AC-6 for more details surrounding the assessment as literacy and culture were tied into the same survey. The assessment was completed by 1188 individuals. Of this, 812 were students. Particpants were asked questions which gauged their thoughts and behaviours surrounding sustainability habits, and how climate change impacts their lives.

Notable responses include:
- 44.13% of respondents Always reduce energy use
- 69% of respondents Always or Usually refuse single-use plastic items
- 96.48% of respondents say sustainability matters to them"
