Does the institution have policies and/or guidelines in place to improve outdoor air quality and minimize air pollutant emissions from mobile sources on campus?:
Yes

A brief description of the policies and/or guidelines to improve outdoor air quality and minimize air pollutant emissions from mobile sources:

In an effort to minimize emissions from mobile sources on campus, Mohawk College operates in compliance with the City of Hamilton’s Anti-Idling by-law, To Prohibit Unnecessary Idling of Vehicles within the City of Hamilton. This by-law was ratified by City Council in 2007 and currently informs college practices.

Furthermore, Mohawk College offers a variety of programs, incentives and guidelines which aim to encourage sustainable forms of transportation.

Carpool Guideline: Students can register up to 4 licence plates onto the same parking pass. Only one vehicle registered to a pass can be parked on campus at a time. This incentivises carpooling and offers financial relief.

Universal Transit Pass: Each student receives a U-Pass through the Mohawk Students’ Association. The U-Pass utilizes the Presto Card platform which grants students unlimited trips across the City of Hamilton’s municipal transit system during the academic year. The Presto platform is used throughout the Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area. Students can choose to pre-load fare for use in other municipalities.

Sustainable & Active Transportation
Bike Loan Program: staff & students can borrow a bike and helmet from the Fennell Library for 3 days, free of cost.

Secure Bike Parking & Repair: staff & students can park their bicycle in a secured outdoor cage. Nearby repair stations make quick fixes or adjustments easy!

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations: Mohawk College has 16 universal EV charge ports distributed across both the Fennell and Stoney Creek campuses. Both Parking Pass holders and visitors can charge for free.

Emergency Ride Home: In the event of an emergency, Mohawk College employees are entitled to receive up to $75 in reimbursement for travel costs when they use a sustainable means of reaching campus. This program is offered through partnership with Smart Commute Hamilton.
