Mohawk College offers training and professional development opportunities in sustainability to all employees. All professional development courses, programs and workshops are approved by Managers and recognized as formal training. These opportunities ranges from a variety of sustainability topics including mental health, financial knowledge, sustainability and business management, climate change, gender equality and diversity, inclusiveness, Aboriginal experiences, harassment and diversity.
As well, all staff have access to Lynda.com, a leading online learning platform that helps anyone learn business, software, technology and creative skills to achieve personal and professional goals. Through individual, corporate, academic and government subscriptions, members have access to the Lynda.com video library of engaging, top-quality courses taught by recognized industry experts. https://www.lynda.com/search?q=sustainability
Some professional opportunities offered by the college include:
Healthy Eating: Healthy Work Lunches (cooking demonstration) - A cooking demonstration to learn quick and simple recipes that taste great and are easy to fit into your busy schedule. Participants will have the opportunity to taste the meals and take a copy of the recipes home.
Microeconomics Introductory - ECONMCS03
Explore principles essential to an understanding of contemporary microeconomics, with emphasis on the use of economic models for accurate analysis of economic developments. Climate Change Management for Business Course
Staff have free access to the Climate Change Management for Business Course. Climate Change Management for Business is a flexible and free micro-course. Learn about climate change and gain the knowledge necessary for helping businesses manage it. By the end of the course you will be able to: Recognize the role of greenhouse gas emissions on climate change; Identify climate-related risks and opportunities for business and; Select strategies and tools to help businesses adapt to and mitigate climate change impacts
Sustainability Microcredential
Staff have free access to a Sustainability Microcredential where they can move through 4 modules: Population, Energy & Climate Change,;Waste & Water; Sustainability and Cities; and Business and Sustainability.
Indigenous Insights Micro-Credential
A free micro-credential course offered to employees and students to learn more about Indigenous culture and the social, cultural or political issues that affect Indigenous peoples' access to education and health services. Participants learn about the impacts of Residential schools, contributing factors to health in Indigenous communities and the difference between epistemic and institutional racism.

LEED GA Certification
Mohawk College staff can take any professional development opportunity and be reimbursed as long as it is in alignment with their current role at the college and is approved by their manager. In 2018, Manager, Sustainability and Climate Change and the Sustainability Programs and Services Coordinator were approved to register for the LEED GA Certification and were reimbursed for the cost. As well, through Mohawk's membership with the CAGBC, a discount was also provided for the certification. https://www.cagbc.org/LEEDGreenAssociate
