A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
The Missouri S&T Green Campus Committee has formed a partnership with a local business, Route 66 Bicycles. This local business participates on the University’s committee as a community member and is working with the University to develop sustainable transportation options for the campus. The New Bike Advisory Council also includes partnerships between the university, City of Rolla and local businesses to promote sustainability education, advocacy, and awareness for alternative transportation. Missouri S&T has partnered with all the local schools through the Rolla School District to provide sustainability outreach during annual Earth Day celebrations. Various outreach events are held during Earth Day and the children from the local schools are invited to participate. Hundreds of local children participate each year. The Missouri S&T Office of Sustainable Energy and Environmental Engagement (OSE3) maintains and develops partnerships with several organizations to promote and advance sustainability. OSE3 partners with the St. Louis Science Center for education and advocacy of electricity conservation and electric vehicles. OSE3 partners with the Science Discovery Center Planning Committee for the E3 campus initiative, which is a community-wide effort with the university, education representatives, community leaders, and business leaders.
