A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :

Missouri S&T actively seeks a diverse graduate student population. As evidence of this, 41 nations around the world are represented in the graduate student body.

The Office of Graduate Studies offers Chancellor’s Fellowships to future doctoral students. Chancellor's Fellowships are to be awarded to students to encourage them to begin and complete a PhD course of study at Missouri S&T. Chancellor’s Fellowships provide for waiver of all required fees and out-of-state fees (if applicable) for the Fall, Spring, and Summer sessions

The Office of Graduate Studies promotes and makes available external funding opportunities for Minority and Female Students, including the following:

Fellowships for Minority Students
• American Geological Institute Minority Participation Program
• AT&T Labs Fellowship Program
• EMERGE Summer Research Program (formerly LS-MoAMP)
• Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships
• GEM Fellowships
• Global Research Collaboration
• J.P. Morgan Launching Leaders MBA Scholarship
• National Physical Science Consortium
• The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans
• Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship Program

Fellowships for Female Students
• Amelia Earhart Fellowship Awards for Women
• AT&T Labs Fellowship Program
• Global Research Collaboration
• National Physical Science Consortium

Missouri S&T’s Female and Underrepresented Minority Faculty Recruiting and Retention Task Force (FUMFRR) has many ongoing initiatives which include recruitment of faculty from underrepresented groups and increasing the representation and advancement of women in STEM careers.
• Recruitment of Minority Faculty-The Task Force repeatedly discussed avenues for early recruitment of promising minority candidates. The interview process was identified as a crucial point, and ways of creating a more positive interview experience were discussed. Increasing the awareness and sensitivity of department chairs and search committee members to the importance of this experience in increasing faculty diversity were among the efforts explored.
• ADVANCE Proposal - FUMFRR led efforts in preparation of a proposal to the NSF ADVANCE program, which is intended “to develop systemic approaches to increase the representation and advancement of women in academic science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, thereby contributing to the development of a more diverse science and engineering workforce.”
