A brief description of the programs sponsored by the institution to support underrepresented groups within the student body:

There are multiple programs at Missouri &T that provide support to underrepresented groups within the student body. They include:
Student Diversity Programs
The mission of the Student Diversity Programs office is to assist in actively supporting students from ethnic populations that have historically been under-represented in science and engineering careers. The staff supports all diversity-related programming that will better ensure the success of these students on campus and after graduation. The office also helps promote awareness about multicultural related issues to the campus community.
• Student organization leadership
• Master Student Class series
• Mentoring
• Workshops and training
• Scholarships
• Resource center
Through programs and partnerships, SDP helps foster an academic and professional environment that supports the students of Missouri S&T and strengthens the campus community.
Women in Science & Engineering
The WISE program strives to increase the number of women in the science, engineering, math, and technology fields through our outreach, recruitment, and retention efforts from middle school age through the undergraduate levels.
WISE provides support programs including scholarships, mentoring, professional/technical workshops, advising, and social activities. It is our goal to create an academic and social climate at Missouri S&T to enhance your educational experience.
The WISE office has a women's social lounge, computer lab, resource library, and conference room for student meetings. Missouri S&T's student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers is also sponsored by WISE.

Center for Pre-College Programs
The Center for Pre-College Programs (CPCP) supports several programs designed to increase the number and diversity of students prepared to enter college and successfully pursue math, engineering, technology and science programs. These Missouri S&T-hosted events include:
• Math, engineering, technology and science summer programs
• Academic year workshops
• In-school math, engineering, technology and science programs
• State and regional academic competitions
Summer Programs/ Minority Introduction to Technology & Engineering
Missouri S&T offers a number of summer programs, including a Minority Introduction to Technology & Engineering (MITE) program. This program is geared towards African American, Hispanic and American Indian rising high school juniors and seniors. Thirty students are selected for each of the two sessions. Students are selected based on a combination of GPA, class rank, extracurricular activities, and recommendations from high school teachers and/or counselors. The program was developed to give high school juniors and seniors first-hand knowledge of what engineers actually do. MITE helps students understand how mathematics and the sciences relate to engineering, and if engineering is may be considered as a career choice.
Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on African American Recruitment & Retention
Mission- This committee is commissioned by the Chancellor and is responsible to the Chancellor and the appropriate delegated staff to advise on ways to enhance educational opportunities for African-American students and to assist the campus in recruitment, retention and improvement of campus life for such students.
Vision- CACAARR’s vision is to assist S&T in becoming one of the preferred universities of choice for African American students interested in science and technology and encourage intense personal engagement in exceptional academic and professional programs thereby cultivating a lifelong commitment to learning, ethics, civic responsibility, and openness to cultural diversity for all constituents connected to the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
