A brief description of the institution's stormwater management initiatives:
The University uses a variety of strategies to manage stormwater runoff from campus operations. The Physical Facilities office ensures stormwater plans that meet State requirements are maintained for all new construction projects. Stormwater management strategies for campus operations include porous paving at Thomas Jefferson Residence Hall, and retention ponds located at the General Services building, south of University drive and at Innovation Park. Vegetative and stone swales are also utilized at Innovation Park. Stormwater runoff from Missouri S&T’s Power Plant, Quarry and Experimental Mining operations is managed in accordance with State permitting requirements, which includes a quarterly sampling protocol. Compliance oversight is provided by the office of Environmental Health and Safety. The University has a Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan in place to mitigate environmental impacts. The SPCC plan encompasses the entire campus.
