A brief description of steps the institution has taken to ensure that the purchasing policy, directives, or guidelines are followed:
In 2009, Missouri S&T Custodial Services Operations (CSO) implemented a Green Cleaning Program. Missouri S&T’s Green Cleaning Program serves as a standard work practice for custodial services operations on the campus. Missouri S&T’s Green Cleaning Program includes the following commitment to purchase Green Seal cleaning products: “Green Seal (www.greenseal.org) is the most widely respected and utilized product and services certification organization. Green Seal principles, certifications and recommendations will be a minimum product selection standard for Missouri S&T’s CSO Green Cleaning Program. In addition, the Green Seal Standard for Cleaning Services (GS-42) will be used as a guide for providing cleaning services. All CSO custodians are trained in green cleaning procedures and the GS-42 specification. CSO plans to become GS-42 certified.” Missouri S&T’s Custodial Services Operations (CSO) has evaluated the cleaning products in its inventory in an effort to streamline or eliminate unneeded chemicals from its cleaning operation. Since 2009, CSO has reduced the number of cleaning chemicals in its inventory from 29 products to 8 products. Other steps the University has taken which all include a preference for purchasing Green Seal products include the following. The details of each initiative are included in the Green Cleaning Program. • Cleaning Chemicals Dilution Control Systems • Implemented Arsenal cleaning chemical dispense system throughout the campus. This dispensing system ensures proper cleaning chemical dilution and greatly reduces waste promoting efficient use of our cleaning products. • Floor Care Systems • Utilizing re-usable, launderable, cotton and micro-fiber cloths instead of chemically treated dust cloths • High Efficiency Vacuum and Carpet Care • Entrance Matting Systems to ensure maximum soil containment and reduce the need for cleaning • Eliminating automatic aerosol deodorizers, urinal blocks and treated dust cloths • Use of Green Seal certified hand soaps • Phasing in Green Seal paper products • Reusing trash can liners to minimize waste • Employee Training and Building Occupant Education Programs
