A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:
MSU advocated for a new mask ordinance in Springfield, MO in response to the Covid outbreak in the community. Although MSU applied its own mask requirements on campus, MSU felt it necessary to advocate for a community-wide ordinance to protect community health.

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level:
In 2018 and 2019, the university testified before the Missouri Senate in support of a bill that would expand the State of Missouri’s guaranteed energy cost savings contracts program. The university has successfully used this state program to finance sustainable facility projects that generate a cost savings for the university, and the university continues to support expanding the program to be more accessible and to allow a broader spectrum of projects to qualify.
