A brief description of steps taken to ensure that e-waste is recycled responsibly, workers’ basic safety is protected, and environmental standards are met:
MSU has an active program to recycle electronic wastes generated by the institution that can no longer be repaired or have reached the end of their service life. Electronic waste is submitted to the Environmental Management Department who then recycles this material locally through the Computer Recycling Center, a permitted recycling facility. In 2009, the University recycled more than 3000 lbs of e-waste.
While much of the student generated electronic waste is recycled (items left at move-out, etc.) no specific program is in place for collection of student e-waste.
