MSUM hired a Sustainability Coordinator in July of 2012. Shortly thereafter an Office of Campus Sustainability was established as an instutional umbrella for the University's sustainability initiatives. Since the office opened in the fall of 2012, it has held several events and activities related to sustainability, as well as implementing a student-run recycling service.

A brief description of each sustainability office:
The mission of the Office of Campus Sustainability is to exist as the campus hub for environmental sustainability. Its goal is to raise awareness about environmental impact of our institution, including efforts to lessen that impact. It aims to foster the wise use of resources while enriching the student experience along the way. The Office brings sustainability down to earth in a way that gives each student, faculty, and staff member the opportunity to leave our campus cleaner than we found it.

The Sustainability Coordinator serves as a facilitator in the University's move towards sustainability.
