A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:
LAMMPS, a project which involved neighborhood, City of Oakland, and Mills collaboration over a 15 year period to provide pedestrian and bicycle paths, landscaping, closing of some lanes on road, more lights to slow traffic. Also, to encourage pedestrian/bicycle opportunities for people to patronize the Laurel Shopping District and connect the Laurel community to Mills. This project conducted a large amount of community outreach, involving underrepresented groups in planning and idea generation.

Work on your “Think Like a Citizen Scientist” Journey Award by getting hands-on creek restoration experience with experts from Mills College. You’ll evaluate the health of Leona Creek by documenting your observations, collecting data, and analyzing restored portions of the creek. Help protect our local watershed and save the world one creek at a time!
