A brief description of how and when the cultural assessment(s) were developed and/or adopted:

The inaugural Sustainability Survey was developed and administered in Fall 2015. The survey was drafted by the Sustainability Coordinator and edited based on feedback from the Sustainability Committee, which consists of students, faculty, and staff. We plan to administer this survey again in 2021, if and when students are back on campus, post-COVID pandemic.

A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:

The survey was shared via campus-wide email announcements and social media. Responses were incentivized via a gift card raffle. The survey was created on a Google Form that only allowed responses from a mills.edu gmail account.

A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment:

Most respondents ranked drought mitigation as the area Mills should prioritize improving its efforts in, and most respondents believed most lawns should be replaced with drought-tolerant natives. However, a significant number of respondents (35%) believed that lawns serve an important purpose and should be kept. Most respondents cared about sustainable activities such as biking, waste reduction, shopping locally, and reducing energy use.
