A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:
Departments form Green Teams to pursue Green Department Certification. The certification provides points for various sustainability actions within the department, with some sustainability measures required. With enough points, departments can earn a Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification.
A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:
Each department that has or is pursuing Mills' internal Green Department Certification, has a green team. The members of department green teams are self selected. The idea is that they provide the leadership necessary within their own department to assess and push forward their green practices. There is also an advertised email group in which faculty and staff who are interested in making their departments greener can ask for advice from other departments' green teams. There is a shared google folder that green team members can add resources to for other employees.
A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
Green teams meet regularly to discuss green initiatives within their department. The Sustainability Coordinator and/or a designated representative is available for these meetings to participate or host trainings. There are also provided with a Green Department Certification Resource Guide.
A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):
The institution provides the Sustainability Coordinator as the point person for the Green Teams and Green Department Certificaiton. They also have a fund to celebrate departments that complete the certification process with a certificate and gift basket.
