A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:
The numbers reported here are the most recent currently available, from the Fall of 2014. Employees requesting a parking permit in the fall are required to complete a transportation survey that includes questions regarding primary modes of transportation. 307 employees responded to the survey, out of 477 employees total. This sample was used to estimate the percentage of all students using various modes of transportation. The estimates for percentage of students using vanpool or carpool, or taking a campus shuttle or public transportation, are conservative since the survey sample only included students who were requesting parking on campus.
18 employees lived on-campus during the 14-15 school year. Employees living on-campus were assumed to use non-motorized means to travel, as the distance between employee residences and offices is insignificant at Mills.
