A brief description of the institution’s featured program, initiative, or accomplishment:
The Franklin Environmental Center at Hillcrest, housed in a Leed certified building, seeks to shape a world in which humans, ecological communities, and economic systems can sustainably coexist. We do this by engaging students, faculty, and staff with emerging environmental challenges and creative, sustainable solutions; supporting education and promoting the transference of teaching and learning beyond the classroom; and convening discussions with diverse audiences on campus and beyond. The Knoll is home to our Educational Garden, Outdoor Kitchen, and Serenity Garden. These are used by faculty, staff, students, and our local community for classes, research, and events.

Energy2028

A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:
Energy2028 will fulfill Middlebury’s mission at its deepest level: students learning how to engage their communities, think consequentially, and act creatively at this crucial time for our environment. Our commitments include using 100% renewable and local energy, campus energy conservation, reducing fossil fuel investments, and providing educational opportunities.

Name of a third highlighted program/initiative/accomplishment:
Climate Action Capacity Project

A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:
Through a generous donation from the Erol Foundation , the Climate Action Capacity Project (CACP) launched in fall 2020 and seeks to both support the vital work being done and explore ways to pilot new opportunities to drive real impact. The mission of this project is to provide all Middlebury College students with the knowledge, motivation, and capacity needed to be effective and transformative leaders on climate change across backgrounds, disciplines, and career paths.
