Has the institution conducted a survey or other evaluation that allows for anonymous feedback to measure employee satisfaction and engagement during the previous three years?:
Yes

Percentage of employees assessed, directly or by representative sample:
100

A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:
In September 2021, Middlebury Staff Council surveyed staff across the institution. This survey garnered a 54% response rate among the 958 eligible respondents. This document is the initial aggregate data release of that survey and its 516 respondents. This data release is an early step in providing transparency and openness about results as a strong foundation to improve and move forward through collaboration and cooperation.

Staff were invited to participate in a survey through e-mail announcements, hardcopy posters, and meeting mentions. Responses were collected from staff over a period of eleven days from September 17, 2021, through September 27, 2021, using the web-based Qualtrics platform. Questions and statements were issued to solicit a combination of Likert scale responses, other multiple choice responses, and free text responses. Data were inspected, processed, sorted, aggregated, visualized, and otherwise evaluated with Qualtrics, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, GNU Core Utilities, Tenex C Shell, Python, Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Plot-Likert Library, Jupyter Notebook, Jupyter Lab, and Anaconda. Where mean values are noted, they are generally calculated using a response valuation based on an integer distribution centered across the median of the eligible response options, such that a uniform response would typically result in a mean value of zero and an extreme response would typically result in a mean value of plus or minus two.

A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation:
Staff Council commissioned the review so that Middlebury College can adopt priorities for the coming years regarding staff satisfaction. This review was shared with the senior leadership group to implement planning regarding changes. 54% of our employees responded to the survey, though 100% of the community was included in the request for an assessment.
