The Provost has funds available to support initiatives that further Middlebury’s strategy. The Provost’s Academic Council (PAC) makes decisions about which ideas to pursue and prioritize, consulting regularly with other offices regarding the feasibility of new ideas and projects. The following three themes guide funding:
1. Projects and initiatives that further our commitment to anti-racism and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
2. Pedagogical or research innovations that align with Middlebury’s strategic framework.
3. Initiatives that build upon Middlebury’s Energy 2028 initiative.
Projects receiving awards through this process have been funded through a variety of sources including The Ron and Jessica Liebowitz Fund for Innovation.

A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:
The Provost’s Academic Council includes the leaders of Middlebury’s academic programs. Individually, they are responsible for the academic quality of their programs. Collectively, they set broad academic priorities within Middlebury’s strategic framework, and work towards a more interconnected future for all parts of the institution.
