A brief description of how the student educators are selected (1st program):
The program consists of 5 Head Residential Sustainability Coordinators (HRSCs) who are paid upperclassmen, and about 20 volunteer first year Residential Sustainability Coordinators (RSCs). All participants submit applications including their related experience, why they are interested in the program, and why they think they would make a good RSC. The HRSCs undergo an interview process as well and were selected based on leadership qualities, enthusiasm, understanding of how organizations and departments function on Middlebury Campus, and relevant experience.

A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):
At the beginning of the school year, all participants attend a 4.5 hour workshop with the Director of Sustainability and the Sustainability Communication and Outreach Coordinator to discuss ideas of what sustainability means as well as to get an overview of sustainability efforts at Middlebury College and how the program fits into the larger picture. They also learn details about the structure of the program, resources available to them, and what is expected of them.

The program receives support from the staff of the Sustainability Integration Office (SIO). A portion of their budget comes through the SIO and the rest comes through the Student Government Association.
