MSU has been a recognized Voter Friendly Campus since 2016. For more information, visit: https://www.voterfriendlycampus.org/campus-designees. MSU has also been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge since 2016. MSU was a Silver-level campus in the 2018 election and a Gold-level campus in the 2020 election (https://allinchallenge.org/campuses/michigan-state-university/). The 2020 National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement (NSLVE) Campus Report for MSU showed a significant increase in student voting rates; rising to 76.6% in the 2020 U.S. presidential election, representing a 24.4% increase from the 2016 election (https://allinchallenge.org/wp-content/uploads/Michigan-State-University-NSLVE-Report-2020.pdf). In addition, the voter registration rate of MSU students reached 91% in the 2020 election, up from 80% in the 2016 election. For its increase in student voting rates in 2020, the State of Michigan recognized MSU through its Michigan Collegiate Voting Challenge for its Most Improved Voter Turnout, 4-year institution award (https://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,7-127-1640_9150-572200--,00.html). MSU was also recognized in the 2021 Washington Monthly Best Colleges for Student Voting Honor Roll (https://washingtonmonthly.com/magazine/september-october-2021/americas-best-colleges-for-student-voting-3/).

The MSUvote Committee is a non-partisan committee consisting of staff, faculty, students, local government, and local residents who seek to increase voter education, engagement, and turnout at Michigan State University and in the City of East Lansing among MSU students. The committee has existed for over 20 years. The committee helps coordinate student voter registration drives and integrate voting information into events, classes and programming. In addition, the MSUvote website is a one-stop shop for students voting information, including for out-of-state voters. https://www.msuvote.msu.edu/

MSU's effort to increase student voting relates to U.N. Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
