A brief description of the farmers’ market:
Every Thursday from May through October, the Student Organic Farm (SOF) sets up a farm stand on campus. Three students who work and/or take courses at the farm rotate shifts at the stand. The farm stand allows students to gain experience in business and marketing, while engaging community members in conversations about sustainably produced fruits, vegetables and flowers.
Community members, students, faculty and staff discuss and exchange ideas on organic products, environmental conservation and eradicate misinformation on organic certification.
The farm stand establishes a space for open conversation on sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation and local economics. It also allows for students to learn about business and marketing of their products.
