Environmental Stewards were recruited from every department and building on-campus. MSU has 579 buildings and 323 departments.
Environmental stewards:
* promote environmental changes among co-workers
* are points of contact for their department for questions and information on environmental stewardship
* are liaisons between Campus Sustainability and buildings for suggestions, improvements and progress
A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive (1st program):
Environmental Stewards attend a one hour training and constant fellow-up, including monthly building reports on their building's electrical consumption, recycling, and waste.

The stewards program has a dedicated full-time staff support from the Office of Campus Sustainability.
